All India Rapeseed Acreage Up by 2% YoY In 2018-19: SEA

Mumbai (Commoditiescontrol) -The Solvent Extractors’ Association of India has recently published preliminary report on Rapeseed crop survey where they have mainly covered the total area sown. The SEA associates have planned survey with GGN research company from 20th to 24th Feb in mustard cultivating areas and the final report over the area, yield and production estimates will be published after 25th Feb’19.

As per preliminary report, total rapeseed sowing across India is reported near 69.26 lakh hectare vs. 67.76 lakh hectare sown previous year, up by 2%.

The are in Rajasthan which accounts for more than 35% in total acreage is observed near 24.78 lakh ha, higher by 19% compared to 20.9 lakh hectares sown previous year. Among the major districts, Ajmer and Kota district reported major increase. In Ajmer total sowing was close to 268.4 thousand hectares vs 239 thousand sown earlier. Similarly, in Kota district total area this year was observed near 457.7 thousand hectares, depicting an increment of 46% compared to 314 thousand hectare sown previous year.

Mustard area in Bharatpur and Ganganagar district was also higher by 19% and 7% respectively. The only fall was observed in Jodhpur regions wherein total sowing was down by 13% to 384 thousand tons on yearly basis.

The area in MP and UP sates was also up by 3% and 1% respectively. In MP state, Morena and Bhind, the two most important regions of mustard crop observed an increment of 3-4% on year on year basis.

Further total production from MP and Chhattisgarh is expected near 739.2 thousand tons, higher by 8% from previous year production of 686.2 thousand tons. Average yield in M.P. & C.G. for the year 2018-19 is 801 kg/hectare as against 750 kg/hectare during the year 2017-18.

Looking at the Gujarat front, the acreage was down by 12% to 195 thousand tons vs. 222 thousand tons sown previous year. The major fall was observed in Banaskantha district where total sowing was down by 11% on y-o-y basis.

The detailed report over acreage and production estimates is likely to be published after 25th Feb 2019.
