MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - India government has notified to increase import duty on chana (chickpea) and masoor with immediate effect in a bid to restrict import to protect farmers interest amid falling prices in the domestic markets.

According to notification, Chana (HS Code: 07132020), Kabuli chana (07132010) and other chana (07132090) will attract import duty of 70% from immediate effect from 60% earlier. It also notified that masoor import will attract import duty of 40% from 30%.

However there is some confusion as the government has at the same time issued another notification related to customs duty hike on some agri and steel products that are imported from the US. We will update once we receive any clarity.
