NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol) - India's pulses import bill dropped by 84.49 percent to Rs 289.51 crore in April this year as compared to Rs 1,867.12 crore during the same month previous year.
In dollar terms, India's pulses import bill cut by 84.76 percent at USD 44.11 million as against USD 289.44 million in April 2017, according to the Commerce Ministry's data released on Tuesday.
Increase in duty and imposition of quantitative restrictions on pulses import mainly led to a decline in inward shipments.
Import of pulses in last three years -
2014-15: 45.8 lakh tonnes (Value- Rs 17,062 crore)
2015-16: 57.97 lakh tonnes (Value- Rs 25, 619 crore)
2016-17: 66.08 lakh tonnes (Value- 28, 523 crore)
