MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) – Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) kept lentil (masoor) supply-demand forecast unchanged for 2018-19 and 2017-18 in its latest April release.
For 2018-19, area seeded in Canada is expected to decrease to 13 lakh hectares versus 2017-18, due to lower expected returns compared to the previous spring.
Despite higher yields, production is forecast to decline by 22% to 20 lakh tonnes, but supply is expected to increase by 8% to 31.5 lakh tonnes due to the significant increase in carry-in stocks.
Exports are forecast to be higher at 18 lakh tonne due to the rise in exportable supply.
Carry-out stocks are expected to decrease but remain historically high which will pressure prices. The average price for all grades is forecast to fall from 2017-18 due to expectations for larger world supply.
