MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) in its latest release (April) didn’t made any revision in supply-demand forecast for 2018-19 (Aug-Jul) & 2017-18 for dry pea (matar).

For 2018-19, seeded area is expected to decrease sharply from the previous year to 13 lakh hectares, due to lower returns relative to other crops and below average export demand.

Trend yields are expected to cause production to decrease by 22% to 32 lakh tonne. However, supply is forecast to increase only marginally to 43.15 lakh tonnes, due to higher carry-in stocks.

Exports are expected to be higher at 26 lakh tonnes and carry-out stocks are expected to decrease but remain burdensome. The average price is expected to decrease from 2017-18 due to expectations of a rise world supply.
