NEW DELHI (Commodities Control) Bearish trend continued in Basmati rice prices in North Indian states due to weak export demand. However, the Prices remained steady for the second day in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. According to traders, demand was expected to remain weak in March, the last month of current fiscal.
Ramnivas Khurania , a rice trader from Kaithal mandi said that rice demand was very weak in the market. Exporters have huge stock of basmati rice which caused thin trade in spot market. He told that worries of increasing corona cases in some parts of the country also dampened market sentiments as Basmati consumption may impact due to restrictions of celebratory functions including marriages and social functions. According to traders of Delhi, the trade remains thin March due to financial closing.
