NEW DELHI (Commodities control) Wheat prices gained in Indore, Kanpur and Bareilly on better demand from millers. Flour millers expect better demand of wheat Atta later as poor consumers will come back for buying. Wheat Atta demand weakened since last April when the government started free distribution of food grains to migrants and those below poverty line, under PMGKAY.

Free distribution of wheat, rice, Chana not only took away poor consumers from open market but also led to flooding of food grain supplied for free distribution in market. The unprecedented circumstances kept wheat prices at lower levels for many months. The government has not extended the scheme beyond 30th November. Trader sources said that millers expect better demand for wheat flour as poor consumers will come back after the scheme.

Wheat prices gained Rs. 20 to Rs. 1660-1670 per quintal in Bareilly. The foodgrain gained Rs. 10 per quintal in Kanpur. Prices increased Rs. 15 per quintal in Indore, while being stable in Delhi, Kota, Bundi and Baran mandis. The prices improved on Tuesday in these mandis. Market sentiments were bullish on better demand after some time. Indore based trader Mr. Navneet Joshi told us that millers have increased buying prices. They were actively buying wheat for expected demand of Atta.
