NEW DELHI (Commodities control) Wheat prices could not get ground at present price levels in the market due to lacklustre demand across north India. The prices lost further up to Rs. 25 per quintal. Flour mills in all the states of North India were buying wheat in limited quantity due to poor demand for products.

In Rajasthan, mill quality wheat lost Rs. 20 to Rs. 1550-1575 per quintal. The common variety wheat was sold with loss of Rs. 10 per quintal in Bundi mandi. While premium quality 4037 Duplicate Sharbati and PD wheat lowered up to Rs. 20 per quintal in Kota. A trader from Kota mandi told that mills were buying wheat for their immediately need. They were reducing prices day by day. Regular demand from south India was supporting market prices but higher arrival forced farmers and other sellers to reduce price so they can get buyers. Today, Hadoti region comprising Kota, Bundi and Baran of Rajasthan received arrival of 12000-13000 bags of wheat. Normally, the region has arrival of about 8000-10000 bags.

Wheat prices slipped again below Rs. 1500 per quintal in Bhopal mandi of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan major wheat producing states whose mandi receive wheat from farmers and traders across the year. Therefore, these state are very important sourcing destination for wheat consuming industries. Mill quality wheat lost Rs. 25 and slipped to Rs. 1475-1500 per quintal. Same trend was recorded in Indore also. In Uttar Pradesh, wheat fell down by Rs. 15 per quintal in Kanpur. Traders do not expect any support for wheat prices as free and subsidized wheat will dampen market dynamics and sentiments.
