KOCHI (Commoditiescontrol) - Increased availability of cheap imported pepper of low bulk density in the markets has pulled down spot pepper prices further on Monday.

On the terminal market today 68 tonnes of pepper arrived and of this 31 tonnes were of imported pepper of 500-510 GL and that were traded at Rs340 a kg.

It was bought by exporters who go by prices, trade sources claimed. They are said to have made forward sales at lower rates earlier and hence were buying to meet their commitments, market sources said.

10 tonnes of pepper from Pulpally and Bathery in Wayanad district of Kerala were sold at Rs350 a kg while 27 tonnes of high range pepper went for Rs360 a kg. Both the material were bought by interstate dealers.

Spot prices declined further by Rs100 a quintal to close at Rs 34,900 (ungarbled) and Rs36,900 (garbled) a quintal.

Indian parity in the international markets was at $5,400 a tonne c&f for Europe and $5,650 a tonne c & f for USA.
