New Delhi, December 6 (Commodities Control): Maize prices traded stable today as reduced warehouse activity exerted downward pressure on the market. However, consistent rake loading limited further declines.
Regional Price Trends
- Jalgaon Zone: Warehouse prices held steady at ₹2,350–2,375 per quintal, unchanged from the previous session. Slowing warehouse buying, as many facilities have completed their procurement, and strong supply pressure from Sillod (ghat line) continue to weigh on prices.
- Karnataka: Arrivals increased to 40,000 tons this week from 30,000 tons last week, leading to a ₹20 per quintal decline in quality supplies, now priced at ₹2,380 per quintal. While arrivals have dropped to 50–60% of their peaks in many districts, areas like Chitradurga and Kottur are seeing healthy inflows due to later harvests.
- Punjab: Ethanol grain buyers reduced their buying price by ₹5 per quintal to ₹2,675 per quintal, benefiting from ample supplies from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
- Chhindwara Mandi: Prices were steady at ₹2,250–2,300 per quintal, while ex-warehouse quotes ranged from ₹2,380–2,420 per quintal depending on quality.
Market Activity
Arrivals in Amalner mandi totaled 700–750 tons today, down from peak levels of 1,500–1,600 tons. Over the past three days, arrivals have weakened and are expected to stabilize at these reduced levels in the coming weeks.
Overall, maize prices are likely to remain range-bound in the near term due to steady arrivals and limited warehouse activity. However, a substantial price increase may occur in the weeks ahead as supplies diminish significantly. The market is expected to closely monitor harvesting patterns and warehouse procurement trends for further cues.
