NEW DELHI, June 30 (Commoditiescontrol) - Cotton prices climbed in the mandis of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Thursday amid increased buying from spinning mills, while daily arrivals stayed unchanged.

According to traders, the prices of cotton had gained in the global market on Wednesday, due to which demand from the mills in the state improved. However, as demand for yarn in the domestic market remains weaker than normal, the mills of these states are still cautious as far as procurement is concerned. Moreover, due to a fall in the domestic production of cotton in the current season, whereas most of the small mills in these states have already stopped production, large mills are also cutting production. However, the balance stock of cotton with the mills of these states is also less than last year. In such a situation, limited variation is expected to remain in cotton prices.

A downtrend was seen in cotton and kapas prices in the domestic futures market today afternoon with April'23 futures contract of kapas on the NCDEX edged lower by 0.76 percent. The July month cotton contract on the MCX also declined by Rs 530 at Rs 43,030 per bale (1 bale -170 kg).

The daily arrival of cotton in the mandis of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was 250 bales (1 bale -170 kg) today, unchanged from a day before. Of the total arrivals, 100 bales arrived in Telangana and 150 bales in Andhra Pradesh mandis.

Cotton prices were between Rs 9,200 to 10,350 per quintal in Telangana mandis and Rs 9,800 to 10,500 per quintal in Andhra Pradesh mandis.

Cottonseed prices ranged from Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,000 per quintal in mandis of Telangana and Rs 3,400 to Rs 3,800 per quintal in mandis of Andhra Pradesh.
