Mumbai (Commodities Control) - New coriander prices continue to head lower amid surge in arrivals. The spice collapsed heavily in the morning session due to hefty arrivals, while the price fall was limited post noon time. Coriander shed Rs 30-50 per Quintal in the Rajasthan state mandis amid arrivals of 28,000 bags, of which 18,500 bags arrived at Ramganj mandi. State mandis witnessed arrivals of 24,900 bags of new coriander supplies.

Apart from Rajasthan, new coriander arrivals have been witnessed in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh mandis too. Having said so, Badami variety of coriander is highly in demand; being purchased by local spice brands and millers. There is nearly 55% demand for Badami and 30% for Eagle. Export firms are looking out for upper Grade quality. Coriander arrivals are expected to peak in the month of March.

Rajasthan masala mandis registered a price drop of Rs 100/Quintal at the beginning of the auction today, while the market ended with Rs 50 per Quintal drop as they recovered from the steep losses by the afternoon session. On NCDEX, April and May futures contracts witnessed mixed trends as the former ended in green while the latter settled Rs 92 lower at Rs 7,206/Quintal.

Upper Grade variety held still due to weak arrivals. Badami variety at Ramganj mandi was quoted at Rs 5400-5590/ Quintal, Eagle variety was priced at Rs 5700-5850 per Quintal. New coriander was quoted at Rs 5700/Quintal at the Baran and Kota mandi. Moisture content has reduced due to favourable weather conditions and clear skies.

Of the 28,000 bags that made their way into Rajasthan spice market, 3,100 bags consisted of old coriander. Ramganj mandi--8,500 bags, Kota mandi--2,700 bags, Baran mandi-- 1900 bags and Jaipur mandi-- 1500 bags
