Indore (Commoditiescontrol) – : All India Dal Mill Association has hailed the Union government's decision to issue notification for import of 4 lakh tons of urad in the country and increasing the import duration up to one year effective from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Reacting to the notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade on March 3, Association president Suresh Agrawal said that his association earlier made a demand to this effect, seeking to extend import duration of urad in the country up to one year so that pulse importers from the country get enough time to import quality urad crop from abroad.

He said amidst reports of lower crop output of urad in states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat and also due to reports of damage to urad crops in some states due excessive rains and pest infection, the government's on import of 4 lakh tons of urad is a welcome move.

Last year, because of the lesser duration of import of key pulse seeds given by the Union government, traders of pulse seeds exporting countries and shipping companies had increased pulse seeds prices, causing huge losses to the pulse traders within the country, Agrawal added.
