Mumbai (Commodities Control) - Spot jeera prices surged by Rs 25/20kgs in Unjha and Rs 20/20 Kgs in Rajkot on Thursday. The gains today follow a mixed price trend during the first three days of the week when both the mandis experienced steady-to-weak price movement.

It is to be noted that Unjha mandi has registered price gains amid increased arrivals of 11,500 bags vs 9,500 bags in the last session, while Rajkot reported arrivals of 4,500 bags vs 2,500 bags in the last session.

Spice traders reveal that demand for holi and Ramadan are keenly watched, as farm arrivals are expected to pick pace from this week and the market awaits better quality spice with lower moisture content.

Jeera futures managed to end higher for the second straight session on Thursday due to extended short covering. NCDEX March’21 settled stronger by Rs 250, after touching day’s high at Rs 13,800 and April futures settled Rs 315 higher. On Tuesday, Jeera on NCDEX hit a two-week low of 13,225 rupees per 100 kg, falling due to higher arrivals at spot markets

Spice traders reveal that bookings have started to take place in anticipation of reduction in moisture content of the new arrivals, amid rising temperature in the producing regions. The fall in jeera prices are seen limited now, as demand is likely to be firm ahead of Ramzan.

Traders reveal that the new arrivals currently have a moisture content of over 12%, which is likely to reduce in a fortnight’s time. Prices may fall further as arrivals of fresh crop are likely to increase over the next few days.

Meanwhile technical analysts see some near-term weakness on charts with resistance near Rs 13,900 levels, however Jeera March'21 on NCDEX has a support at Rs 13,000/Q.
