India Rabi Crops Sowing Area Crosses 650 Lakh Ha

NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol) India’s Rabi season crops sowing area crossed a mark of 650 lakh ha in the country. As on 15 January 2021, total area coverage under rabi crops is 651.94 lakh ha area against 641.90 lakh ha area during the corresponding period of last year, thus increase in total rabi area coverage by 10.04 lakh ha compared to corresponding period of last year in the country. Wheat, rice, pulses and oil seed crops acreage increased. Area coverage under Rapeseed & Mustard has been reported on 73.25 lakh ha compared to corresponding period of last year 68.64 lakh ha, thus increase in area coverage by 4.60 lakh ha area. According to Union Ministry of Agriculture, Overall trend of Rabi sowing progress is very good.



Wheat



About 337.14 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to last year (330.60 lakh ha). Thus 6.55 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Madhya Pradesh (9.91 lakh ha), Maharashtra (1.13 lakh ha), Jammu & Kashmir (0.35 lakh ha), Haryana (0.30 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.24 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.22 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.06 lakh ha) and Assam (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Rajasthan (3.41 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (1.32 lakh ha), Bihar (0.27 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.22 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.21 lakh ha), Punjab (0.17 lakh ha) and Karnataka (0.08 lakh ha).



Rice



About 21.04 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to last year (20.04 lakh ha). Thus 1.00 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the State of Andhra Pradesh (0.64 lakh ha), Telangana (0.28 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.14 lakh ha), Kerala (0.10 lakh ha), Odisha (0.07 lakh ha) and Karnataka (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Assam (0.14 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.12 lakh ha) and Tripura (0.07 lakh ha).



Pulses



About 162.09 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to last year (158.79 lakh ha). Thus 3.30 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Gujarat (4.47 lakh ha), Maharashtra (3.36 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.59 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.58 lakh ha), Himachal Pradesh (0.12 lakh ha), Assam (0.11 lakh ha) and Bihar (0.02 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Madhya Pradesh (1.43 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (1.21 lakh ha), Manipur (1.08 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.75 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.59 lakh ha), Telangana (0.26 lakh ha), Odisha (0.21 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.11 lakh ha), Haryana (0.09 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.08 lakh ha), Meghalaya (0.06 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.05 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.04 lakh ha), Jammu & Kashmir (0.01 lakh ha) and Arunachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha).



Coarse cereals



About 49.11 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to last year (53.51 lakh ha). Thus 4.40 lakh ha less area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Assam (0.06 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.06 lakh ha) and West Bengal (0.05 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Andhra Pradesh (1.00 lakh ha), Maharashtra (0.81 lakh ha), Telangana (0.58 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.44 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.41 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.41 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.41 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.25 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.07 lakh ha), Bihar (0.06 lakh ha), Haryana (0.03 lakh ha), Odisha (0.02 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.02 lakh ha), Punjab (0.02 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.02 lakh ha) and Jammu & Kashmir (0.01 lakh ha).



Oilseeds


About 82.56 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to last year (78.96 lakh ha). Thus 3.60 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Jharkhand (1.66 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.73 lakh ha), Haryana (0.48 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.40 lakh ha), Assam (0.36 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.22 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.19 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.11 lakh ha), Odisha (0.10 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.06 lakh ha), Bihar (0.05 lakh ha), Manipur (0.03 lakh ha) and Maharashtra (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Telangana (0.35 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.19 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.17 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.04 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.02 lakh ha) and Himachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha).



Actual rainfall received in the country is 17.5 mm against normal of 6.7 mm i.e. departure of (+)162% during the period from 01.01.2021 to 14.01.2021 and as per report submitted by Central Water Commission as on 14.01.2021 the live water storage available in 128 reservoirs in the country is 91% of live storage of corresponding period of last year and 122% of storage average of last ten years.
