Rice steadies in Punjab, Delhi, Haryana millers raise prices on higher broken ratio

NEW DELHI (Commodities control) Rice prices remained steady in Delhi and Punjab because of weaker demand. However, the traders were quoting higher prices in Haryana. Few deals were locked at higher prices. 1509, 1121 and 1401 varieties gained Rs. 50-100 per quintal in Haryana markets. Traders said that higher broken ratio forced millers to raise prices.

A trader from Delhi told that demand remained very week. Rice of various varieties sold at previous prices levels. 1509 steam rice was sold at Rs. 5200 and 1121 steam was traded a Rs. 5800 per quintal. Similar trend was noted in Fazilka where 1509 steam priced at Rs. 5300 and 1401 steam at Rs. 5800 per quintal.

Karnal traders told that rice inched up by Rs. 50-100 per quintal for some varieties. 1509 steam was traded at Rs 5250 per quintal with gain of Rs. 50 per quintal. 1121 Sela and 1401 Sela rice also gained Rs. 100 per quintal. Traders told that higher broken ratio pushed up millers’ cost therefore they increased prices. Buyers were reluctant at higher prices but some deals were claimed to be closed.
