Mumbai (Commodities Control) - Spot jeera prices ended lower in Rajkot after a muted trade session on Thursday, while Unjha markets are shut due to nation-wide farmer-trader strike. It is to be noted that spot price in Rajkot slipped despite reduced arrivals on Friday.

NCDEX October futures traded flat and range-bound after having ended weaker in the last session. The most-active contract is Rs 35 higher at Rs 13,635 per Quintal and November futures is Rs 5 up at Rs 13,60 per Quintal at 3.57 pm on Friday.

Rajkot mandi reported reduced arrivals of 600 bags, down 300 bags from last session, while prices dropped Rs 20 per 20 Kgs for all jeera varieties. Europe and Singapore quality were quoted at Rs 2360-2460 and Rs 2260-2405 per 20 Kgs, respectively. Singapore-Mundhra was quoted weak at Rs 2710-2735 and Discolour variety was priced at Rs 2260-2310 per 20 Kgs, unchanged.

Farmers in India blocked roads and railway tracks on Friday in a protest against new legislation that they say could pave the way for the government to stop buying grain at guaranteed prices, leaving them at the mercy of private buyers.

As part of a nationwide shutdown, farmers have hit the streets in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh where opposition parties are likely to join them.

Authorities on Friday cancelled several train services on some routes, as farmers started blocking highways and railway tracks.

Police in various states have beefed up security in the hope of heading off any violence, especially around New Delhi.
