Mumbai (Commodities control) – New kharif Moong traded higher for third straight day by Rs 100-200, as per quality, in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Rajasthan on Thursday, amid better mill buying against ongoing arrivals.

However, moisture content was noted to be higher in new Moong arrivals, at Karnataka and Maharashtra, due to rains and cloudy weather.

Around 35-37% of new Moong is suspected to be damaged in belts of Rajasthan, such as Nagaur, Pali, Jalore, Jodhpur, Sikar and Barmer, due to yellow Mozak disease. Earlier crop was attcked by locust.

Buyers are interested in good quality supplies, for immediate processing requirement.

Millers were facing difficulty in getting good quality Moong for crushing and polishing due to pest-damaged quality of new Moong arrivals.

Demand and sale counters in processed Moong reported limited participation.

On the other hand, old Moong traded almost unchanged, as per quality, in markets of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan due to limited demand from local and outstation millers against regular arrivals.

Moong kharif production during 2020-21 is estimated higher 16.76 % at 2.09 million tonnes Vs 1.79 million tonnes in 2019-20 (fourth advance estimate).
