Indore (Commoditiescontrol) - Despite report of bumper kharif output in the country this year and record production estimates of kharif pulse seeds, pegged at 9.31 million tons this year as against 7.72 million tons last year, the majority of pulse seeds in Indore mandis have been witnessing a rally for the past few days.

According to the traders here, besides reports of damage to the standing crops of Moong and Urad in Madhya Pradesh on account of continuous rains, fresh hike in the MSP by the government has also contributed to an uptrend in pulse seeds prices.

Tur in Indore mandis has gained Rs 200 a quintal in the past one week amidst weak availability of domestic stock and imported stock on Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai ports. On Wednesday, tur (Maharashtra) in Indore mandis rose to Rs 7,100 a quintal, while tur (Nimari) ruled at 5800-Rs 6,800.

Increased arrivals of moist and inferior quality moong in local mandis on account of incessant rains in Madhya Pradesh, has lifted prices of the best quality moong today to Rs 7,000-Rs 7,500 a quintal, while moong (inferior quality) ruled at Rs 4,000-Rs 5,000 a quintal.

Urad was priced firm with urad (best quality) here today being quoted at Rs 7,500-Rs 8,000. At Neemuch mandi, urad (best quality) today rose to Rs 7,200-Rs 7,950, while urad (average) ruled at Rs 5580-Rs 6410 a quintal.

The rally in moong and urad prices will likely continue amidst reports of large scale damage to moong and urad crops in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
