Mumbai (Commodities Control) - Red chilli prices witnessed dull trade in Guntur mandi on the account of Amavasya (New moon phase). Amavasya is considered inauspicious and thus people do not travel on this day and workers do not work. Warangal mandi was shut today.

It is to be noted that Guntur registered higher arrivals of nearly 75,000 bags vs 70,000 bags in the last session. All the chilli varieties dropped Rs 3-6 per Kg, barring Singenta that rose Rs 2 per Kg at 120-145.

On Wednesday, however, prices of Chilli rose in Guntur, the benchmark market in Andhra Pradesh, due to strong demand and lack of good quality produce in the market. According to the traders, strong demand from destinations such as Bangladesh, China and Sri Lanka and shortage of superior quality crop in the market is underpinning prices.
