Kharif Crop Acreage Up 5.68% Higher At 1104.54 Lk Ha; Area Under Oilseed Over 10% Higher

Mumbai (Commodities Control) - Ongoing Kharif sowing is marching ahead at a good pace. Kharif sowing area reached to 1104.54 lakh hectare which is 59.36 lakh hectare (5.68%) higher than acreage for the same period of last season. Normal area for the same period is 1067.73 lakh hectare. Sowing areas increased about 10.79% for oilseeds, 7.59% for rice and 4.64% for pulses and 2.69% for cotton.

Rice: About 402.25 lakh ha area coverage under rice has been reported compared to last year (373.87 lakh ha). Thus 28.38 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Telangana (8.65 lakh ha), Bihar (5.32 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (4.50 lakh ha), Jharkhand (3.96 lakh ha), West Bengal (3.48 lakh ha), Karnataka (2.26 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (1.00 lakh ha), Manipur (0.98 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.90 lakh ha), Maharashtra (0.41 lakh ha), Haryana (0.23 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.15 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.09 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.04 lakh ha), Assam (0.04 lakh ha), Himachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha), J&K (0.01 lakh ha) and Sikkim (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Punjab (1.84 lakh ha), Tripura (1.23 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.30 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.16 lakh ha) and Odisha (0.15 lakh ha).


Pulses: About 137.87 lakh ha area coverage under pulses has been reported compared to last year (131.76 lakh ha). Thus 6.11 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Karnataka (3.18 lakh ha), Maharashtra (2.49 lakh ha), Telangana (1.39 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.72 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.35 lakh ha), Bihar (0.28 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.26 lakh ha), Haryana (0.22 lakh ha), Odisha (0.07 lakh ha), Punjab (0.04 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.04 lakh ha), Assam (0.02 lakh ha) and Uttarakhand (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Madhya Pradesh (1.67 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.90 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.12 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.11 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.07 lakh ha), Manipur (0.03 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.02 lakh ha), Sikkim (0.01 lakh ha), J&K (0.01 lakh ha) and Tripura (0.01 lakh ha).


Coarse cereals: About 179.70 lakh ha area coverage under coarse cereals has been reported compared to last year (177.43 lakh ha). Thus 2.28 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Karnataka (1.78 lakh ha), Rajasthan (1.67 lakh ha), Punjab (0.85 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.63 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.53 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.38 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.16 lakh ha), J&K (0.12 lakh ha), Bihar (0.07 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.07 lakh ha), Haryana (0.06 lakh ha), Assam (0.04 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.02 lakh ha) and Uttarakhand (0.02 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Telangana (2.93 lakh ha), Odisha (0.87 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.07 lakh ha), Maharashtra (0.06 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.06 lakh ha) and Arunachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha).


Oilseeds: About 195.99 lakh ha area coverage under oilseeds has been reported compared to last year (176.91 lakh ha). Thus 19.08 lakh ha more area has been covered last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Andhra Pradesh (2.31 lakh ha), Gujarat (4.94 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (4.08 lakh ha), Maharashtra (3.78 lakh ha), Karnataka (1.91 lakh ha), Rajasthan (1.76 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.68 lakh ha), Odisha (0.04 lakh ha), Punjab (0.03 lakh ha), Haryana (0.03 lakh ha), Chhattisgarah (0.02 lakh ha) and West Bengal (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Telangana (0.26 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.07 lakh ha), Bihar (0.06 lakh ha), Assam (0.01 lakh ha) and J&K (0.01 lakh ha).


Sugarcane: About 52.46 lakh ha area coverage under sugarcane has been reported compared to last year (51.75 lakh ha). Thus 0.71 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Maharashtra (1.56 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.16 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.11 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.01 lakh ha) and Punjab (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Tamil Nadu (0.35 lakh ha), Bihar (0.34 lakh ha), Haryana (0.14 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.10 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.06 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.06 lakh ha), Odisha (0.04 lakh ha), Telangana (0.03 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.02 lakh ha) and Uttarakhand (0.02 lakh ha).


Cotton: About 129.30 lakh ha area coverage under cotton has been reported compared to last year (126.61 lakh ha). Thus 2.69 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Telangana (5.81 lakh ha), Karnataka (1.04 lakh ha), Punjab (0.99 lakh ha), Haryana (0.36 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.35 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.23 lakh ha) and Odisha (0.02 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the State of Gujarat (3.87 lakh ha), Maharashtra (1.58 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.47 lakh ha) and Tamil Nadu (0.13 lakh ha).
