MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Spot pepper prices ruled weak for the third straight day at the major Kochi market in Kerala on Wednesday due to decline in demand at existing higher prices.

The price of garbled was at Rs 331/kg, while ungarbled ruled at Rs 313/kg.

According to traders, there are no big deals in the market. The pressure on prices has increased due to shortage of cash and reduced demand from North India.

Supply of cheaper Karnataka's pepper in the market also pressurised local prices. This year, the pepper production in the country is expected to increase by about 30 percent to 61,000-65,000 tonnes.

Pepper prices have dropped by about 2 percent from the upper levels this season.
