NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol) – The new crop of coriander has started arriving at the benchmark market of Ramganj in Rajasthan last week with a daily supply at 500 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), traders said.

The quality of the new crop is inferior right now because of high moisture level of 15-20%, against the normal of 5-8%. The new crop is being sold at Rs 5,000-6,000 per 100 kg, and the old crop is available at Rs 6,000-6,500.

Arrivals of the new crop are coming with a delay of two weeks in Rajasthan as unseasonal rains in Sep-Oct led to an increase in the moisture level in soil, which made the land unsuitable for sowing coriander.

Currently, arrivals are coming from Jhalawar in Rajasthan, and are expected to peak after Mar 15 when daily arrivals may touch 50,000-60,000 bags in the state, said traders.

Prices of the crop are likely to fall after Mar 15 due to supply pressure, when arrivals of the new crop will pick up pace. Output is also seen higher this year which will also weigh on the market.

After Mar 1, daily arrivals in India may touch 200,000 bags.

Gujarat is the country's largest producer of coriander, followed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
