MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Castor seed production in the country in 2019-20 is estimated to increase by 79.43 percent to 19.45 lakh tonnes as compared to 10.84 lakh tonnes in 2018-19, due to a jump in yield, says a survey commissioned by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA).

Production in Gujarat, the country's largest producing state, may rise to 16.95 lakh tonnes from 8.90 lakh tonnes in 2018-19.

As per the survey, castor seed crop yield may jump by 41.48 percent to 1,992 kg per hectare as against 1,408 kg per hectare last year, thereby pushing up production estimates.

The second advance estimate by the farm ministry has pegged castor seed production at 20 lakh tonnes, up from the previous estimate of 17 lakh tonnes.

India's overall castor oil exports fell over 6 percent on year to 38,199 tonnes in January, after declining 19.5 percent on year to 32,422 tonnes in December, according to SEA data.

In Apr-Jan, exports of the commodity were down at 441,030 tonnes, compared with 472,192 tonnes in the year-ago period.

In 2018-19 (Apr-Mar), India's castor oil exports declined to 571,985 tonnes from 651,326 tonnes in the previous year.
