Cotton Rules Mixed In Central, South India On Selective Demand

MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Cotton prices ruled mixed at major markets in Central and South India on Monday due to selective demand from mills.

Prices remained steady in Gujarat amid sluggish trade. In Maharashtra prices were also unchanged as higher arrivals offfset low level mills demand. While in Madhya Pradesh, the commodity moved lower due to higher arrivals.

In South India, prices were firm today mainly due to low level demand.

Arrivals today stood at 38,000 bales in Gujarat, 70,000 bales in Maharashtra, 19,000 bales in Madhya Pradesh, 35,000 bales in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana and 12,000 bales in Karnataka.

According to traders, demand from mills has improved at lower levels. How the export demand continued to remain listless due to the outbreak of coronavirus in China.

Meanwhile, the number of reported new cases of coronavirus in China`s Hubei province rose on Monday after two days of falls, as authorities imposed tough new restrictions on movement to prevent the spread of the disease which has now killed more than 1,700 people.

In Hubei, the epicentre of the outbreak, health officials reported 1,933 new cases and 100 new deaths on Feb. 16, the lowest daily death count since Feb. 11. The number of new cases rose nearly 5 percent from the previous day, but the number of deaths fell from 139.

Across mainland China, officials said the total number of cases rose by 2,048 to 70,548, with 1,770 deaths.
