NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol) - Spot mentha oil prices weakened further at key markets of Uttar Pradesh on Friday due to sluggish demand from pharmaceutical and consuming industries and higher supply.

According to traders, fearing further fall in prices, farmers are now offloading their produce in the market. Expectation of higher acreage also weighed on prices.

At present, sowing of mint roots in nurseries is going on, and ideal time for the same is January 15 to February 15. Transplantation would start by February end.

Mentha oil prices in Chandausi, Sambhal and Rampur quoted at Rs 1,255/kg, Rs 1,275/kg and Rs 1,250/kg, respectively.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), mentha oil contract for delivery in February ended lower by Rs 11.80 or 1.02 percent at Rs 1,140.80 per kg.
