MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - The price of red chilli prices remained mostly firm at the major Guntur and Warangal markets on Wednesday due to increase in demand after a fall in prices over the last few days.

The price of Teja variety at Guntur gained by Rs 10 to 150-180 per kg. The commodity also moved higher by Rs 4 to Rs 150-174 per kg at Warangal. The price of 341 and Wonder hot varieties however declined by Rs 17 and Rs 3 per kg, respectively.

A total of 30,000 bags of new red chilli arrived at the Guntur market today, while new crop arrival stood at 8,000 bags at the Warangal mandi.

According to traders, the overall sentiment is bearish as farmers have started bringing more new crops in the market and will gain momentum in the coming weeks.

Chilli production in Andhra Pradesh, the largest producer, is seen up 9.8 percent at 692,000 tonnes against 630,000 tonnes in the previous year, according to the state agriculture department's second advance estimate.
