Mumbai (Commodities control) – Chana remained almost flat on Tuesday at major markets amid thin physical buying as per immediate requirement from crushing. Demand and sale counters in Chana dal and besan was also reported slack.
Moreover, sentiments are still under pressure as Nafed planning to sell procured stock around 10 lakh tonnes state wise in next three month.
Total 21326.94 MT Chana from various origin, such as Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda, USA, Sudan, Russia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mexico, Bulgaria and Argentina arrived at Nhava Sheva port in October month.
Chana for December delivery on National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), settled firm by 0.5 percent or Rs 21 up to Rs 4,489/100kg. Earlier, in the day, the contract hovered in the range of 4,461 and 4,490.
Open interest for NCDEX Chana November contract decreased to 3470 lots against 3680 lots.
Similarly, open interest for December contract also down to 45460 lots against 45880 lots.
On other hand, open interest for January contract increased to 14980 lots against 14060 lots.
Open interest of top 10 trading clients in the long side was 36570 MT whereas the short position of top ten clients was 36160 MT. The net position of top 10 clients was net long by 410 MT.
Chana stocks at NCDEX accredited warehouses stood at 7634 metric tonnes (Indore: 30, Bikaner 5,236, Jaipur 2,368) as on 18th November, up from 7198 metric tonnes in the previous session, the exchange data showed.
In Mumbai, Tanzania origin Chana declined for second straight day by Rs 25 to Rs 4,300.
Ethiopia origin kabuli chana also ruled weak for second straight day by Rs 25/100kg at the Mumbai amid dull trade activity owing to less interest shown by besan flour millers. While, Sudan, Burma and Russia origin Kabuli Chana stayed steady.
As per trade sources, Chana prices trend in spot market depends on sowing figures, weather condition in Chana producing areas, imports of kabuli Chana at cheaper prices and also on Nafed policy on liquidation old procured stocks.
