India's Vegetable Oil Imports Up 10% YoY In Oct At 13.78 Lakh Tonnes

MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - India's vegetable oil imports rose 10 percent in October to 13.78 lakh tonnes, according to industry data.

Imports of vegetable oils (edible oil and non-edible oil) stood at 12.56 lakh tonnes in October 2018, according to Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA).

Edible oil imports rose to 13.31 lakh tonnes from 11.74 lakh tonnes. However, non-edible oils imports fell to 46,178 tonnes from 81,987 tonnes during the period under review.

"The overall import of vegetable oils during November 2018 to October 2019 is reported at 155.50 lakh tonnes compared to 150.26 lakh tonnes during the same period of last year i.e. up by 3.5 percent," SEA said in a statement.

Edible oil year runs from November to October.

During November 2018 to October 2019, the overall palm oil import has increased to 94.09 lakh tonnes from 87.01 lakh tonnes during the same period last year, due to higher import of RBD palmolein.

However soft oils import decreased to 55.04 lakh tonnes from 58.16 lakh tonnes.

During November 2018-October 2019, SEA said that import of refined oil (RBD palmolein) increased to 27.31 lakh tonnes from 21.36 tonnes in the corresponding period previous year. Import of crude oils decreased to 121.82 lakh tonnes from 123.81 lakh tonnes.
