Bearish Sentiments Pull Down Small Cardamom Prices

MUMBAI(Commoditiescontrol) – The Small cardamom prices continued to fall on Monday on bearish sentiments following good rains in the growing areas in the main growing state, Kerala coupled with gradual rise in the arrivals as first round of harvesting has begun.

The current crop, which is already late, is likely to be smaller, market sources said. According to Mr Ranganathan, a major dealer in Bodinayakannur, the main trading hub for the aromatic spice, the prices are expected to stay above Rs. 2,000 a kg in the coming days.

The prices of all the grades have fallen by Rs300 a kg today, he said.

At today's forenoon auction conducted in Bodinayakannur by The Cardamom Processing & Marketing Co-Operative Society Ltd, Kumily, arrivals were at 36.8 tonnes and of this 30 tonnes were traded. Maximum price stood at Rs. 3,383 a kg while the auction average has dropped to Rs. 2,622.52 a kg from 3,285.12 a kg on Friday last.

In the afternoon auction conducted by Cardamom Planters Association (CPA) the arrivals were at 11.5 tonnes and almost the entire quantity was sold.. The auction average dropped further to Rs2,491.68 a kg. The maximum price was at Rs3,169 a kg.

Today's prices were as follows:

8 mm good colour bold Rs4,200 a kg

7 - 8 mm Rs3,700 a kg

6- 7 mm Rs 3,200 a kg

Good colour Bulk : Rs3,200 a kg
