MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - The small cardamom prices last week ruled steady on matching demand and supply.

Availability of the aromatic spice continues to remain very tight. However, small volumes of fresh cardamom started arriving from isolated pockets.

The erratic southwest monsoon so far this year has negatively affected the next crop, Mr P C Punnoose, General Manager, CPMC said. He said the next crop is likely to be smaller.

The individual auction average remained at over Rs3,000 a kg at all the auctions last week in Kerala and Tamil Nadu like in the previous week, he said.

At today (Monday)'s auction conducted by Cardamom Growersforever Private Limited 19 tonnes of cardamom arrived and of this around 15 tonnes were sold. The maximum price was at Rs 3,503 a kg while the auction average stood at Rs 3,078.60 a kg.

No export buying was taking place following the sharp increase in the prices, market sources said.

The prices of graded varieties remained unchanged in Bodinayakannur and that were today at (in ₹/Kg) : 8mm good green colour bold 3,800- 4,000: 7 - 8 mm 3,400- 3,500 : 6-7 mm 3,200. Good bulk was being sold at Rs3,300 a kg.
