Mumbai (Commodities control) – Chana prices traded higher at major markets in the country on Monday following strong cues from futures and on millers buying support as per quality and amid the ongoing domestic arrivals.
Crushing in Chana/Kabuli Chana had also increased due to cheaper prices and easy availability compared to White Pea.
Demand in chana dal and besan was also good from consumption centres.
As per market talk,sustainability of this rise will depend on pace of Nafed procurement in spot markets and demand for Chana Dal/besan. However, chana is cheaper pulses compare to other pulses. Moreover, output of chana is likely to be lower by about 10-15 per cent this season in the country, according to trade estimates.
Australia origin Chana in ready business at Mumbai and Mundra port moved higher by Rs 100 each at Rs 4,700/100kg, respectively amid better trade activity and also not much stock left.
Similarly, Burma origin chana gained by Rs 150 at Rs 4,650/100Kg.
Ethiopia/Sudan/Russia/Burma origin kabuli chana gained by Rs 75-150/100Kg at the Mumbai amid better buying from besan flour millers following firm trend in Chana.
NAFED Procured 455075.97 MT Chana In Rabi-2019 Season as on May 16,2019.Telangana:34500, Rajasthan:68259.14,Maharashtra:15088.97, Madhya Pradesh:322975.37,Andhra Pradesh:1374.2, Gujarat:12878.29.
Chana for June delivery on National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), settled higher 1 percent or Rs 44 at Rs 4,656/100kg. Earlier, in the day, the contract hovered in the range of 4,612 and 4,745.
Chana stocks at NCDEX accredited warehouses stood at 91,843 metric tonnes (Indore: 161, Bikaner 67,633, Jaipur 24,615) as on 19th May, up 91,843 metric tonnes from the previous session, the exchange data showed.
Kabuli Chana of all counts priced higher by Rs 100-150/100Kg at Indore amid better local buying activity.
