MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) -For the first time in the history of small cardamom trade the individual auction average has crossed Rs1,800 a kg to close at Rs1,840.57 a kg on Wednesday.

At the auction conducted by the South Indian Green Cardamom Company Ltd, Kochi, today 44.7 tonnes of cardamom arrived and the entire quantity was sold out. The maximum price stood at Rs2,112 a kg while the auction average rose to Rs1,840.57 a kg. The individual auction average has been running above Rs1,700 a kg for over a week now. Fears about non-availability of the aromatic spice given the sharp decline in the arrivals, of late, coupled with apprehensions about a small next crop are attributed to the current bullish trend. Added to this, the trade has expressed the opinion that there might take place suspension of auctions in the coming weeks for want of adequate volume of the produce, market sources said. e.o.m
