MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - European Union soybean imports in the 2016-17 season dropped 3 percent at 66 lakh tonnes by Jan. 3 against 68.5 lakh tonnes same period a year ago, official data showed on Thursday.
In soymeal, cumulative EU imports so far in 2016/17 were 93 lakh tonnes, down 15 percent from 109 lakh a year ago.
Palm oil imports stood at 29 lakh tonnes, down from 35.5 lakh tonnes a year earlier.
Soybeans, soymeal and palm oil lead, by far, the respective categories of imported seeds, meals and vegetable oils in the EU.
The EU was updating export and import data with two weeks of figures after its usual weekly publication was postponed from last Thursday due to the year-end holidays.
