Ukraine and Belarus
Highlights: Scattered light precipitation, 0.04-0.28 inch (1-7 mm), favoring
western and north-central Ukraine during the past 24 hours. Temperatures
averaged near to mostly above normal.
Forecast:
Days 1-3: Episodes of mostly light precipitation favoring Belarus and
northwestern Ukraine during this period. Temperatures average near to above
normal today and Thursday, near to below normal west and near to above normal
east Friday.
Days 4-6: A few light showers or a little light precipitation may occur during
this period, favoring northern areas. Temperatures average near to above
normal.
WORLD WHEAT PROSPECTS
Favorable conditions for developing winter wheat in the southern plains due
to an active rainfall pattern.
Mostly favorable conditions for developing winter wheat in the southeast
Midwest and Delta states.
Winter wheat in west and central Europe is reported to be in fair to good
condition at this time. Reports suggest that winter wheat is in vegetative
growth in western and northern areas, vegetative to reproductive in Spain.
Recent dryness is being watched as it concerns crop areas of northern France
and western Germany.
Increasing rainfall through western and central Ukraine will help improve
prospected for winter wheat in vegetative growth stages at this time. Prospects
remain favorable elsewhere in Ukraine and also in west and south Russia at this
time.
Mostly favorable conditions for winter wheat through east-central China at
this time. Rain has occurred through southern areas recently with some light
precipitation in the north as well. Wheat is likely in early reproduction at
this time.
Wheat in Pakistan and north India benefited from significant rain and cool
temperatures late in January, especially any winter wheat that was reproductive
at the time. Additional beneficial rainfall has been reported during March as
well.
Periodic showers through winter wheat areas of northwest Africa has supplied
favorable moisture for most of the key growing belt. Wheat is flowering to
filling in the west, reproductive in the east, at this time. Prospects are good
to excellent, especially in Morocco.
