WORLD COTTON PROSPECTS
Mostly favorable conditions for increasing harvest in West Texas.
The harvest of cotton in Pakistan and northwest India is reported to be
nearing completion at this time. Late season rainfall has favored cotton
through west-central India. Drier weather has recently developed and this will
favor the maturing crop and the early harvest.
Favorable weather for mature cotton and harvesting in Uzbekistan and
Turkmenistan.
Early season dry weather in east-central Australia reduced soil moisture
and irrigation supplies in cotton areas. The early planting effort was delayed.
Recently generous rains fell in key cotton areas of Southern Queensland and
northern New South Wales cotton belt. This likely improves planting prospects
and will favor early development of this crop.
