Southeast US (Alabama and Georgia) Forecast
Scattered light to locally moderate showers Thursday. Dry conditions or
just a few light showers Friday. Scattered light showers Saturday. Dry
conditions or just a few light showers Sunday. Dry weather Monday-Wednesday.
Temperatures near to above normal Thursday, above normal Friday-Sunday, near to
above normal Monday, near to below normal Tuesday-Wednesday.
6-10 Day Outlook: Temperatures variable. Rainfall below normal.
Rain is needed to support dryland cotton planting in west Texas. There is
no significant rainfall in sight along with episodes of much above normal
Favorable conditions for developing cotton in the Delta states. Drier
weather would benefit planting and development in the Southeast states.
No significant concerns for the harvest of cotton in eastern Australia at
this time, despite a few showers being reported.
Mostly favorable conditions for cotton in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and
Tajikistan (Former Soviet Union) at this time. Some unseasonable rainfall last
week provided for improved irrigation supplies but may force some replanting.
Western China cotton areas saw a favorable turn to drier conditions during
the past week but very cool temperatures limited development. Warmer weather so
far this week as been more favorable. A drier, warmer period on the North China
Plain will favor developing cotton this week while rains in the Yangtze river
valley may be somewhat unfavorable for this crop area.
Planting was underway in the heavily irrigated areas of Pakistan and
northern India. Planting of cotton through west-central and southeast India
will increase as seasonal rains increase during the coming weeks.
