LONDON -- The U.K. Parliament said a cyberattack targeting user email accounts hit its computer network.

A spokesperson for the House of Commons on Saturday said Parliament discovered unauthorized attempts to access parliamentary user accounts, and that it was investigating the incident in coordination with the National Cyber Security Center.

"We have systems in place to protect member and staff accounts and are taking necessary attempts to protect our systems," the spokesperson said.

The incident comes less than two months after the U.K.'s National Health Service was among a raft of institutions, companies and individuals to be hit by a massive cyberattack, which scrambled computer systems in at least 150 countries.
