U.K. Lowers Threat Level to Severe From Critical -- Home Secretary

By Jason Douglas

U.K. Home Secretary Amber Rudd said Sunday the U.K. lowered its national terror-alert level to the fourth rung of a five-rung scale, after raising it in the aftermath of Friday's subway bombing in London.

Security officials have reduced the threat level to severe from critical, Ms. Rudd said, meaning an attack is likely. The critical level means an attack may be imminent.

Asked in a broadcast interview whether the reduction meant police have rounded up all those suspected of being involved in Friday's attack, Ms. Rudd said: "What it indicates is that good progress has been made."

Ms. Rudd was also asked whether police believed there are more bombs to be found. Islamic State claimed Friday that its operatives had planted more than one device.

"They will always make claims that suit their intentions. But actually there is no evidence of that," she said.
