Trump May Instead Impose Tariffs on Commods -- Market Talk

5 Jan 2017 5:27 am

0527 GMT - Trump is unlikely to impose wide tariffs on US imports, says Invesco chief economist John Greenwood. The threat of such trade action has weighed on emerging markets in Asia, along with China and Hong Kong. "Symbolic measures will be taken in some markets to protect US producers," Greenwood predicts. He anticipates tariffs on raw steel and other commodities instead of finished products, which could raise prices for US consumers. (kenan.machado@wsj.com)
