Southeast Asia Sugarcane Weather - Jun 11

 
SOUTHEAST ASIA REGION: 
 
Myanmar Highlights: Episodes of showers, thundershowers and some rain during 
the weekend period. Heaviest in west and north areas, associated with the early 
part of the rainy season. 
 
Thailand Highlights: Scattered showers and thundershowers favoring northern and 
western areas during the weekend period. Drier and somewhat hotter in southeast 
locations. 
 
Vietnam Highlights: Scattered showers and thundershowers mainly early in the 
weekend period.  Widely scattered to isolated activity later in the weekend. 
Temperatures near to above normal. 
 
Philippines Highlights: Moderate to locally heavy showers and thundershowers 
favoring central and northern areas early in the weekend period. Somewhat less 
activity later in the weekend. Variable temperatures. 
 
Malaysia Highlights: Scattered to widely scattered shower activity during the 
weekend period. Somewhat hotter temperatures. 
 
Indonesia Highlights: Seasonal rains continue to shift north of the region at 
this time. 
 
WORLD SUGAR PROSPECTS 
 
    It has turned drier again through the sugarcane belt along Australia's 
northeast coastline. This will favor seasonal fieldwork which should include 
harvesting of old crop and planting of new crop. 
    Favorable harvest weather in Sao Paulo Brazil 
    Periods of scattered rains through southern China will help maintain soil 
moisture development sugarcane. 
    The Indian Monsoon continues to build over the northern Indian Ocean and 
south and east India at this time. Sugarcane in India relies on favorable 
Monsoon rains to supply soil moisture and irrigation. Key growing areas include 
Uttar Pradesh in the north, Maharashtra in west-central locations and Tamil 
Nadu to southern Karnataka in the south. The weather forecast suggests 
significant shower activity will occur in much of the sugarcane belt during the 
next 5 to 7 days. This will help improve conditions for development of the 
crop. 
   Mainly dry, warm weather will favor the harvest of sugarcane in southeast 
South Africa at this time. 
   Seasonal to above average rains through the southeast Asia region will favor 
sugarcane production but may delay the harvest.
