WORLD OILSEED PROSPECTS

Episodes of showers in oil palm areas of Malaysia and Sumatra will maintain
adequate soil moisture. This will likely maintain favorable yield prospects for
this crop. However, it may also slow harvest progress.
The Rabi groundnut crop in India will rely on irrigation supplied by the
summer Monsoon rainy season but is under stress due to above normal
temperatures and an early end to the Monsoon rain at this time.
Mostly favorable conditions at this time for the winter rapeseed crop grown
near the Yangtze river in eastern China.
Mostly favorable conditions at this time for winter rapeseed in Europe.
Reports suggest that winter rapeseed has broken dormancy in western Europe. The
eastern Europe crop belt has had very cold temperatures at times during this
winter. Much of this crop area had enough snow cover to protect the crop at the
time of the coldest weather but areas where snow was thin may have had some
problems. Dryness has recently become of some concern for crop areas of France.
However, recent forecasted rainfall in the area should help ease concerns
somewhat.
