WORLD SUGAR PROSPECTS

Favorable conditions for developing cane in Sao Paulo Brazil.
Periods of scattered rains may slow the harvest of old crop sugarcane
through southern China while improving soils moisture for planting of the new
crop.
Showers in sugarcane growing areas of India has recently occurred over the
Ganges plains and in the far south, not that unusual for this date. These
showers will favor development of early planted new crop while causing only
minor field work delays. Hot weather elsewhere in the key growing areas at this
time, also not that unusual for this date.
Episodes of scattered showers and warm temperatures should favor development
of sugarcane through southeast South Africa. A recent increase in rain through
east-central and northeast sugarcane areas will improve conditions for the
crop, following earlier dryness concerns.
Seasonal to above average rains through the southeast Asia region will favor
sugarcane production but may delay the harvest.
