South Africa: Maize and Sugarcane 
 
Summary: Mostly dry during the past 24 hours. Temperatures averaged near to 
above normal. 
 
Forecast: 
 Days 1-3: Mostly dry today and Thursday. Chance for a few light to locally 
moderate showers during Friday. Temperatures average near to above normal 
during this period. 
 
 Days 4-5: Scattered light to locally moderate showers favoring northern and 
eastern areas during Saturday. Drier again Sunday. Temperatures turn somewhat 
cooler during this period. 
 
WORLD CORN PROSPECTS 
 
    Generally favorable conditions for the upcoming planting season across the 
Midwest. 
    Favorable conditions for developing second crop corn in central Brazil as 
the rainy season continues. 
    Drier weather favors maturing corn in central Argentina. Soil moisture is 
adequate for later filling crops. 
    Maize in South Africa should benefit from warmer temperatures and adequate 
soil moisture at this time. Maize is likely filling to maturing at this time.
