Mostly favorable conditions for winter grains in Ukraine and south Russia.
Recent rainfall has helped recharge soil moisture in key growing areas, after
late summer dryness concerns and heat. Winter grains are entering dormancy
through most areas at this time.
Mainly favorable conditions for winter grain development through western
Europe at this time. Recent rains have slowed planting progress in the east
while improving soil moisture following drier and hotter late summer weather.
Dryness and drought had been of concern in Spain and of Italy. Spain had
showers recently but more rain will be needed to end the drought. Italy had
heavy rainfall recently which should end any further concerns at this time.
Dryness in east-central Australia delayed the early planting effort for
sorghum. Rainfall during October provided needed soil moisture and irrigation
through much of the region but especially through the south Queensland areas.
Additional rainfall has occurred during November. Improving prospects for
planting and early development.
Late season rainfall through India favored development of the Kharif sorghum
crop, especially in previously dry areas in and near Maharashtra. Late season
rainfall also improved irrigation and soil moisture supplies in winter sorghum
areas. Recent rains in the far south may have been somewhat unfavorable for the
harvest of summer crops and the planting of winter varieties.
Favorable weather for planting and developing corn in Argentina. Two
episodes of scattered showers this week should maintain adequate soil moisture
in most areas.
Corn harvest delays this weekend in the Midwest, especially in the east.
Drier weather during the next 7-10 days may allow most producers to finish the
Favorable weather for the remaining corn harvest in the northern Plains.
Recent rainfall in eastern Europe may mean delays to the final harvest
effort for corn. No significant concerns for the harvest in France at this
No significant concerns for final harvest effort for corn in China at this
South Africa Maize growing areas have turned hot and dry again early this
week. Soil moisture should favor continued planting in the east and early
development. However, in the west more rain is still needed to ensure favorable
conditions for planting, germination and early development of maize,
