WORLD GRAIN PROSPECTS

Winter grain areas of Ukraine, west and south Russia have been warmer
during the past week. Snow cover is diminishing as is normal for the season.
Moisture for this crop should be adequate to surplus as this snow melts. The
crop remains mostly dormant and is likely behind normal due to prior cold
conditions. Spring grain planting may be delayed this year due slower
development of the winter grains crop and the likely delayed harvest.
Winter grain areas of Europe have been warmer during the past week. The
crop has likely benefited from recent rain and prior warm temperatures. Winter
grains in Spain likely range from vegetative growth to reproduction and will
benefit from good winter and early spring rains. Italy will benefit from above
normal winter time precipitation as crop development increases during the
coming weeks.
Drier, warmer weather at this time will favor maturing sorghum and
harvesting of sorghum in eastern Australia.
Mostly favorable conditions for the harvest effort for the Rabii Sorghum
crop in India at this time. Late season showers in key growing areas for the
Rabi crop in southern India may have come too late to significantly improve
prospects.

WORLD CORN PROSPECTS

Episodes of cold/wet weather will delay fieldwork and corn planting in the
Midwest.
Despite episodes of wet weather, corn planting progress is running at or
ahead of normal in the Delta and Southeast states with the exception of
Arkansas.
Favorable conditions for developing second crop corn in central Brazil.
Drought conditions are breaking in the major corn and soybean areas of
central Argentina. However rainfall is likely coming too late in the season to
be of much benefit to crops.
Filling to maturing maize in South Africa growing areas will benefit from
warmer temperatures and only scattered showers during this week.
