WORLD SUGAR PROSPECTS

A more normal rainfall pattern has returned to Sao Paulo Brazil favoring
developing cane.
A drier trend in key growing areas of southwest China will improve
conditions for the harvest effort for sugarcane.
Mostly favorable conditions for developing cane in northern India. Late
season rainfall through key growing areas of Maharashtra and in southern India
have improved prospects for these crop areas. The west-central area has
recently gone seasonally drier and warmer.
Seasonal to above average rains through the southeast Asia region will
favor sugarcane production but may delay the harvest.
A turn to drier, hotter weather in the sugarcane growing region of
southeast South Africa at this time will bear watching. However, typically the
region would turn wet and cool for much of the growing season during years that
feature La Nina conditions in the Pacific.
