WORLD WHEAT PROSPECTS
Drier weather will benefit maturing wheat and the increasing harvest in the
southern plains.
Drier weather benefits maturing wheat and the early harvest in the
southeast Midwest. The harvest is ongoing in the Delta states.
More rain would benefit developing spring wheat in the northern Plains.
Winter wheat in north and central Europe ranges from reproductive to
filling at this time and is reported to be in fair to good condition. Reports
suggest that winter wheat is in filling to maturing growth stages in southern
Europe. Wheat is in good to excellent condition in eastern Europe.
Winter wheat in Ukraine ranges from flowering to filling at this time and
is in excellent condition in the south and east and somewhat more variable in
north-central and west areas. Wheat in west and south Russia ranges from
flowering to filling and is in good to excellent condition at this time.
Showers in the Newlands region of Russia and Kazakh favors emergence and
early development of recently planted spring wheat.
Winter wheat in east-central China ranges from maturation to harvest at this
time. Recent rains may have been somewhat unfavorable but it has turned drier
and warmer again at this time.
Wheat planting in Australia normally takes place during May and June. A
recent drier period as set up over most wheat areas in Australia. Dryness is
already of concern in northeast and west growing areas due to less overall soil
moisture. Dryness may be of increasing concern for more areas unless rain
arrives soon.
