24 Dec 2017 11:05 pm
Northern New South Wales and southern Queensland
Highlights: Isolated to widely scattered thundershowers, locally heavy, in
southeast Queensland...mainly early in the weekend period. Little elsewhere in
the region during the weekend. Temperatures near to below normal south, near to
above normal north.
Days 1-3: Scattered showers and thundershowers are possible through east and
north areas of the south Queensland region Monday into Tuesday. Drier
Wednesday. Dry or with only a few light showers in northern New South Wales
during this period. Temperatures near to below normal.
Days 4-5: Mostly dry during this period. Temperatures average near to above
Favorable weather for developing cane in Sao Paulo Brazil.
A drier trend in key growing areas of southwest China will improve
conditions for the harvest effort for sugarcane.
Mostly favorable conditions for developing cane in northern India. Late
season rainfall through key growing areas of Maharashtra and in southern India
have improved prospects for these crop areas. The west-central area has
recently gone seasonally drier and warmer, although rain occurred early in
December in minor growing areas of southeast Gujarat.
Seasonal to above average rains through the southeast Asia region will
favor sugarcane production but may delay the harvest.
Sugarcane areas of southeast Africa benefited from significant rain
activity and cooler temperatures during the past few weeks, both the irrigated
and non-irrigated crop areas. This mostly favors the crop, except in areas of
local flooding. Rain may have briefly delayed seasonal fieldwork.
