WORLD WHEAT PROSPECTS

Soil moisture through key winter wheat areas of the central plains
continues to diminish. Favorable conditions for planting but rain will be
needed to ensure favorable development prior to winter dormancy.
Major losses to spring wheat due to hot/dry weather in July in the
Prairies. No significant concerns for the harvest at this time.
The spring wheat harvest is nearing completion in the northern Plains.
Favorable conditions for developing wheat in central Argentina.
Recent shower activity may have been somewhat unfavorable for maturing
spring wheat and the early harvest in central Russia and northern Kazakh. Drier
weather at this time is more favorable.
Mostly favorable weather for planting winter wheat in Ukraine, west and
south Russia at this time. Dryness is of some concern for key growing areas in
southeast Ukraine and south Russia.
Mostly favorable soil moisture for vegetative to reproductive wheat in West
and vegetative wheat in southeast Australia at this time. However, more rain
would still benefit these crop areas after very dry weather earlier in the
season. Dryness continues to stress wheat grown in northern NSW and southern
Queensland. Wheat in reproductive growth stages is likely being hurt at this
time. Rain is needed to stabilize crop prospects for the area.
